ASSESMENT OF EBOLA PREPAREDNESS AT POINTS OF ENTRY AND ISOLATION CENTRES IN 9 HIGH RISK COUNTIES

Following the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak declaration in Uganda, the Ministry of Health (MoH)in Kenya implemented all possible surveillance measures especially along its borders to ensure that no EVD case is reported in Kenya. The Ministry of Health through the Division of Disease Surveillance and Response (DDSR) prioritized the assessment of the preparedness of the Points of Entry (airports, One-Stop-Border posts, beaches) and isolation centers in 9 high risk counties which include: Homabay, Kisumu, Migori, Busia, Siaya, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot and Turkana.

This assessment was conducted between the 26th of October and 2nd of November 2022 by the Division of Disease Surveillance and Response (DDSR) in conjunction with the Head of POEs in Kenya, Kenya FELTP residents, IMPACT Masters program residents, and FELTP field coordinators. The assessment involved face to face interviews and key informant interviews with the county Focal Persons who include the County Director of Health, County Disease Surveillance Coordinator, PortHealth Managers, and Beach Management Unit Managers.

The assessment revolved around the 10 pillars of surveillance which are: EVD Rapid Response Team, Coordination, Case management, Risk communication, Contact tracing, Laboratory Investigation, Infection Prevention and Control, Community engagement, Epidemiological Surveillance, and Monitoring
